Darren Green
Darren started his course, with us, in October 2008. Although he had worked in the construction industry for some time, he felt it was time to concentrate on one discipline and opted to join our painting and decorating program. He was a very keen learner with a willingness to understand all aspects of the trade. He quickly established himself on the course and started to show real promise at a very early stage. His progress was swift and it soon became apparent that he had a real talent for decorating. On completion of our course, Darren progressed onto the City & Guilds level 1 construction multi skills course at CTS (Construction Training Specialists) which he passed with ease, gaining his CSCS card at the same time. He then returned to us, as a volunteer, to continue to hone his painting skills. In June 2009, Darren started his own decorating business and is gradually building up his client base. Darren is an excellent painter and decorator, with a keen eye and an emphasis on attention to detail. If you would like to contact Darren about any decorating work. He is trading as Greens Painting and Decorating Services and can be contacted on: Mobile : 07598 278855

Glenn Carthew
Glenn joined one of our courses in November 2008. He had recently been made redundant and was finding it difficult to get anything in his field of work; transportation. He was recommended to us by the learning shop in Norwich, as he had always wanted to get into decorating/construction, but never had the opportunity or time to learn. Glenn integrated well from the beginning. Some of our existing learners had been on our program for a few weeks, and knowing that new learners start at different times, helped Glenn settle in from the start. His aptitude for decorating was evident from the start and he had the determination and drive to succeed. He successfully completed all the course elements, and progressed on to the City & Guilds level 1 multi skills in construction program at CTS (Constrution Training Specialists). He thoroughly enjoyed the course and passed with flying colours, gaining his CSCS card at the same time. On completion of the CTS program, Glenn returned to us as a volunteer. He said that he enjoyed the community work so much and had got so much out of his learning experience, that he wanted to continue working with us. In his time as a volunteer, Mike and Doug offered careers advice to help Glenn become self employed. He was advised to see various business advisers, and to consult with Doug about working in the construction industry. With the advice and guidance of Mike, Doug and various business mentors, Glenn set up in business, as a self employed painter and decorator, just six months after completing his initial course with us. He has gone on to get contracts with Julian Housing as well as private work. He has accessed other valuable training courses with Lovells and is currently enjoying his time as a painter and decorator. Glenn currently trades under Carthey Decorating Services. If you would like any decorating work undertaken then he can be contacted on: Norwich 01603 400592 Mobile 07786085063 email carthey@msn.com
